Sexual offenders register functional Justice Minister Jeff Radebe said the completion of the first phase meant current convictions of sexual offenders could now be recorded. The register would capture sexual offences against children and mentally disabled people. It currently held all convictions from June last year until the present. The next phase of the project had not yet been implemented because it was too expensive, Radebe said. Blaine Hill - You have to be pro-active and stop wating till something does happen.
Stop this now, to many people getting hurt and there are many more getting away with what they have done or about to do. So pull the resources together and get it done. Before it really gets out hand. Neville - Surely all crimes are already recorded? It should be a matter of accessing that database for any crime a person may have committed. At present the register only contains a fraction of the names of convicted offenders, the court records will show every name.
People also need to be aware that simply because a person's name does not appear in the register does not mean that the person is not an offender. There are many offenders who have not been caught. Every person working with children should be carefully checked and monitored. Ederik - That will explain why most crimes are done by criminals set lose after being caught? I agree there are flaws in the system, but those same flaws will occur in the sex offenders register.
If you make a formal job application through a reputable job agency, your record will be checked. Shino - What about offenses against woman and That going to cost another R5 million?? All the ministers have to pay for at least one overseas trip out of their own pocket. Then there will be enough to get the register done ages ago and build an extra couple of houses for the poor. This is an important register!!
I want to know if I'm living next to a sex offender! No I will not take action against that person, but I have a 2 year old son and I'm 12 weeks pregnant. I have the right to know!!!! How can we get this issue raised at the youth conference???? How will they feel about the fact that the government is more concerned about their big party where no one shows up than their safety?
Oops sorry I forgot - The 16 days against women and child abuse are over! We'll have to wait another year!!!! Not to "spy" on your neigbour. I understand your concern, but you should watch your neighbours and their interaction with your children anyway. It could be that your neigbour has never been caught so will not appear in the register.
Snoopy88 - Ockert - They are often very friendly and nice to kids and the last person you would think who would be an offender. And that can include a grandfather or an uncle, or sometimes even a female relative it's not always your neighbour. Parents should be careful with any person accessing their kids.
